Design students reimagine holiday traditions in ‘Designs of Christmas’ exhibit

0

The Philippine School of Interior Design–Ahlen Institute (PSID-Ahlen) is giving the country’s most beloved holiday a fresh look and feel with its 48th graduation showcase, the Designs of Christmas Exhibit (D.O.C.E.), unveiled at a press launch at GH Tower in Greenhills.

The exhibit features 12 student-designed installations that reinterpret Christmas through culture, color, character and chronology. Moving beyond the classic red-and-green palette, the booths highlight how Filipino design sensibilities continue to evolve, blending heritage with contemporary style and personal expression.

“Through the years, Filipinos have evolved in their design sensibilities,” said interior designer and PSID professor Pojie Pambid. “Gone are the days when houses were decorated with giant spoon-and-fork sets or tinikling dancers on the wall. Today, design is more curated, more personalized and more experimental, even during Christmas.”

Here are the 12 booths on display:

  1. A raw yet festive entertainment room with grooved concrete partitions, breeze blocks, and coffered ceilings softened by warm lighting. The design encourages traditional play and conversation, free from tech distractions.
  2. Inspired by the grandeur of the Victorian era and enriched with steampunk details. Bold colors, brass accents, and Arcane-inspired ornamentation create a space that feels historic yet imaginative.
  3. Art Deco. Formal glamour meets Bohemian warmth in a Manhattan-inspired setting. Deep green walls, gold accents, velvet seating, and a feathered tree capture both elegance and memory.
  4. Drawing from Las Posadas, this booth blends solemn lighting with vibrant Otomi patterns and papel picado-inspired panels, reflecting both reverence and celebration.
  5. A festive fusion of the Rio Carnival and Filipino Christmas. Fluid curves, warm wood, and tropical textures set the stage for rhythm, light, and cultural connection.
  6. Simoy ng Pasko – A dining lanai inspired by Simbang Gabi. An achromatic palette, soft greens, and gentle textures create a serene yet communal space that honors faith and togetherness.
  1. Velvet Frost. Inspired by chocolate plum and mint hues, this living room pairs a hand-painted floral mural with a sculptural tree lamp, reimagining holiday light and tradition.
  2. Liloura Lush. A soft, elegant space shaped by lilac, icy blue, and ivory. Designed to be both festive and timeless, it balances beauty with practicality.
  3. Spiced Ember. A whisky lounge palette of russet, orange, and flame conveys warmth and refinement. Layered textures and sculptural accents offer a fresh take on holiday intimacy.
  4. Noël Aurora. An Icelandic-inspired room that shifts from serene daylight tones to crystalline hues at night, echoing the Northern Lights through light and texture.
  5. Urban Cosmopolitan. A bachelor pad influenced by origami and geometry. Clean lines, angular furniture, and a statement red tree create a bold yet comfortable holiday setting.
  6. Rustic Soirée. Evoking a French provincial Christmas Eve, this booth features a stone archway, wooden beams, a glowing hearth, and a ceiling-mounted Christmas tree, blending rustic warmth with sacred symbolism.

“Altogether, the exhibit reminds us that Christmas is a living tradition that unites us across time, culture and imagination,” said Joel Benitez, president of the graduating batch.

Benitez added that the showcase also demonstrates how design education can be both creative and culturally anchored.

The Designs of Christmas Exhibit opens to the public on September 27 and runs until October 31 at GH Tower, Greenhills.

Taiwan Expo 2025: Driving Trade, Innovation, and Partnerships in the  Philippines

0

The recently concluded Taiwan Expo 2025 at the SMX  Convention Center demonstrated how trade fairs can translate into tangible opportunities for growth.  Organized by the Taiwan International Trade Administration (TITA) and Taiwan External Trade  Development Council (TAITRA), the three-day event drew strong participation from both Taiwanese  exhibitors and Philippine businesses, underscoring Taiwan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral  ties through technology, sustainability, and innovation.

The Expo welcomed a total of over 10,000 visitors and buyers with the amount of 53,400,000 USD  business opportunities generated, highlighting its strong draw among both business leaders and  consumers. Organizers emphasized that the Expo was more than a showcase; it was a gateway for  B2B engagement. Business matching sessions were fully booked, connecting Filipino entrepreneurs  with Taiwanese manufacturers, suppliers, and innovators eager to establish distributorships and  joint ventures. With over 145 exhibitors spanning healthcare, green technology, agritech, and ICT,  the Expo provided a comprehensive snapshot of Taiwan’s capabilities. Each pavilion — from the  Healthcare Pavilion to the Smart Technology & Intelligent Lifestyle Showcase — was designed not  just to display products but to position Taiwanese companies as strategic partners for Philippine  enterprises seeking growth in high-demand sectors.

The opening ceremony featured key figures such as Representative Wallace Minn-Gan Chow of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines, TAITRA Chairman James Huang, and  MECO Director Wilson Tecson, all of whom reinforced the importance of cooperation. The symbolic  jersey exchange between Taiwan and Philippine representatives offered a memorable visual  metaphor for partnership and shared goals. Industry observers noted that the message resonated  well: Taiwan is not only a supplier of technology but also a partner in building resilient industries in  the Philippines.

While the Expo’s backbone was business, organizers successfully widened its audience. Known  artists and performer such Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, was invited as celebrity guest under  the Taiwan Excellence Pavilion, provided significant media traction. Her participation in activities  such as the “Gimme Five Parade” and meet-and-greet sessions boosted foot traffic and public  engagement, drawing lifestyle media attention to an otherwise trade-centered event. This approach  effectively bridged B2B objectives with consumer visibility, making Taiwanese brands more relatable  to everyday Filipinos.

Stage events, live demonstrations, exhibitor showcases across industries, and cultural  performances diversified the Expo’s programming. Meanwhile, the daily lucky draws with special  prizes ensured visitor participation remained high throughout the three-day run. For businesses, this  translated to increased booth traffic and stronger exposure, with many exhibitors reporting quality  leads generated during the event.

From a trade perspective, the success of Taiwan Expo 2025 in the Philippines lies in three measurable  outcomes:

  1. Strong B2B traction – Exhibitors and Filipino companies engaged in concrete discussions on distributorships, partnerships, and knowledge exchange.
  2. Expanded visibility – The mix of business sessions and celebrity-driven activities ensured that Taiwanese brands reached both industry leaders and consumers.
  3. Strengthened positioning – Taiwan reinforced its role not only as a technology provider but as a long-term partner in the Philippines’ sustainable and digital transformation.

As the Philippines accelerates its focus on digitalization, renewable energy, and healthcare  innovation, Taiwanese companies are well-positioned to play a key role. The Expo’s success suggests  that collaborations initiated at SMX will extend beyond the exhibition floor, translating into contracts,  investments, and shared growth.

In the words of TITA and TAITRA, the organizer of the event, Taiwan Expo 2025 in the Philippines  was “not the end, but the beginning of stronger cooperation.” Judging by the turnout, the  engagements, and the buzz it generated, the business community seems to agree.

0

Pioneering a new era of AI-driven mobile experiences through comprehensive cloud-device integration.

HONOR and Alibaba officially cemented a landmark strategic cooperation agreement in Hangzhou, China. James Li, CEO of HONOR Device Co., Ltd. and Eddie Wu, CEO of Alibaba Group, jointly witnessed the signing.

This pivotal strategic cooperation agreement is built upon a shared vision for growth and strategic imperatives. The two industry leaders are embarking on a comprehensive, multi-faceted, and systematic collaboration, focusing on critical strategic areas including AI ecosystems, AI models and capabilities, and intelligent services. Together, we aim to cultivate a thriving AI ecosystem, seizing the immense opportunities presented by AI-driven industrial transformation and the convergence of intelligent device ecosystems.

In the realm of AI agent ecosystems, HONOR and Alibaba will leverage their distinct technological and ecological strengths in AI agents, large AI models, intelligent services, and innovative application experiences. This will translate into comprehensive and deep cooperation across a multitude of core service scenarios, including travel navigation, tourism services, lifestyle, mobile office, e-commerce, and entertainment. The partnership will foster technical exchanges and resource sharing across different fields, jointly exploring new groundbreaking features and interaction paradigms for mobile devices.

For AI models and capabilities, the collaboration will center on joint development based on the Qwen open-source model. This includes vertical application models for on-device AI, AI agents, and multimodal understanding and generation. The ultimate goal is to co-create a globally leading “cloud-device integrated” intelligent device experience, seamlessly merging the power of the Qwen large model with HONOR’s cutting-edge hardware, operating systems, and diverse scenarios. This joint effort will accelerate the evolution of large model technology which focuses on scenario-specific and on-device improvements, delivering more intelligent, personalized, secure, and fluid AI services and experiences to HONOR MagicOS users.

Furthermore, the two powerhouses will double down on their collaboration on MaaS (Model-as-a-Service) AI capabilities. This involves continuous optimization of performance and integration of capabilities across text, multimodal, image, video, and voice scenarios. We will jointly explore training, fine-tuning, and inference processes for both on-device and cloud AI models, whether based on the Qwen open-source model or developed collaboratively. The ambition is to forge advanced on-device models that achieve State-of-the-Art (SOTA) capabilities.

Looking ahead, this deep cooperation will continue to expand. Leveraging Alibaba’s extensive commercial service ecosystem and through the MCP (Multi-Cloud Platform) protocol, a series of vertical intelligent agents, such as Ele.me (food delivery), Damai (ticketing), and Taopiaopiao (movie ticketing), will be progressively integrated. This will extend the Agent ecosystem to a wider array of vertical scenarios, including food delivery, entertainment, office collaboration, and e-commerce, providing users with even more convenient and efficient life services.

This initiative will embed AI technology more deeply into daily life. HONOR’s upcoming HONOR Magic8 Series, poised to define the most powerful self-evolving AI native smartphone, will also bring users a wealth of AI usage scenarios and services jointly developed by HONOR and Alibaba in China.

TCL Air Conditioner Leads with Smart Air Innovations at IFA 2025

0

On September 5, the 2025 Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin (IFA 2025) kicked off grandly in Berlin, Germany, where TCL Air Conditioner appeared with a series of core products such as the TCL FreshIN C7 and FreshIN 3.0 fresh air conditioners, TCL VoxIN voice controlled air conditioner, TCL SaveIN AI energy-saving air conditioner, Free Match multi-split systems, and Unitary air conditioners, drawing the attention of worldwide consumers for frontier technologies and leading product experiences.

TCL is committed to meeting users’ demand for “healthy air” by focusing on the fresh air segment

TCL Air Conditioner has always been focusing on the fresh air segment, defining new-generation air conditioners, and leading their development through three major product lines – AI health, AI voice control and AI energy-saving – based on the “FreshIN smart health technology engine”.

At IFA 2025, TCL Air Conditioner exhibited its leading technologies in this segment to worldwide visitors. Of particular note is that the TCL FreshIN 3.0 fresh air conditioner drew extensive attention as a typical product. TCL FreshIN 3.0 bagged the “AI Energy-saving Technology Gold Award” in the IFA Global Product Technology Innovation Awards for its outstanding innovations in AI energy-saving technology.

As people increasingly pursue a healthy lifestyle, conventional air conditioners that focus on air conditioning only while neglecting air quality can no longer meet all consumer needs.

The TCL FreshIN 3.0 fresh air conditioner responds precisely to this trend by meeting users’ demand for comfortable and healthy indoor air by eliminating odor, mouth dryness and dizziness when one wakes up with the aid of the quadruple purification filter system and TVOC gas sensors. It also achieves 16 dB(A) quiet fresh air by applying the quadruple noise reduction technology, so that consumers can enjoy a quiet, comfortable experience while enjoying healthy fresh air.

In addition, the offline voice control function enables free conversation, the continuous recognition of user commands, and instant response to all needs, and creates the convenient experience of supplying air to the sound source and freeing up both hands

In terms of AI voice control, the TCL VoxIN air conditioner enables fast, accurate, and hands-free offline voice control, without relying on an internet connection. It can continuously recognize commands and even locate the sound source to direct airflow toward or away from the user.

Add to that, VoxIN introduces another breakthrough designed to elevate everyday living. Equipped with advanced T-AI smart energy-saving technology, it goes beyond basic cooling by adapting to real-life needs, ensuring homes stay comfortable, fresh, and efficient throughout the year. Sleek, powerful, and practical, the VoxIN positions itself as a premium alternative that delivers high-level performance without the expensive markup.

Meanwhile, the upcoming new TCL SaveIN air conditioner feature advanced AI energy-saving functions. Powered by an upgraded chip and advanced big data algorithms, TCL air conditioners deliver up to 35% additional energy savings compared with non-T-AI inverter models—providing smarter, greener comfort.

Together, these innovations create a true “comfort zone” for match watching and gatherings, and present global consumers with a smarter and healthier way of living.

TCL Air Conditioner defines new-generation air conditioners with AI health technology, and creates a smart health breathing experience

TCL Air Conditioner has always been committed to technological innovation and product R&D, and defining new-generation air conditioners with AI health technology. It has created three major product lines – AI health, AI voice control and AI energy-saving, and launched innovative products in the FreshIN series constantly, providing users with an ultimate smart health breathing experience.

In terms of production capacity and global layout, TCL Air Conditioner has established 11 production bases in Zhongshan in Guangdong, Wuhan in Hubei, Jiujiang in Jiangxi, Nansha in Guangzhou, Indonesia, and Brazil, with an annual production capacity of over 38 million air conditioners. It ranks among the top two in the industry in terms of export volume, with its products selling to over 160 countries and regions.

In 2024, TCL Air Conditioner’s production and sales volume exceeded 20 million air conditioners, and its fresh air conditioners ranked first in terms of global sales volume, showing strong market competitiveness.

This February, TCL formally became an Olympic global partner. In August, TCL announced that freestyle skier Eileen Gu was appointed as TCL’s global brand endorser, who would also serve as an “Inspire Greatness” athlete of Team TCL, opening up a new chapter of “Inspire Greatness” together with TCL in preparation for upcoming Olympic events including the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics.

As an important business unit of TCL, TCL Air Conditioner will further strengthen its emotional connections with consumers and enhance the brand’s influence among worldwide consumers through this partnership.

In the future, TCL Air Conditioner will adhere to the value proposition of “smart health”, drive product and technology upgrading constantly closely around user needs, and make the healthy green lifestyle brought by air easily available to more people.
