A Legacy of Trust, A Future of Integrity: AMAES and PPCRV Launch 2025 Elections Command Center

0

In a significant move ahead of the 2025 national elections, the AMA Education System (AMAES) and the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) officially launched the PPCRV Command Center at PLDT Sampaloc, reinforcing a long-standing partnership rooted in transparency, technology, and civic duty.

The command center, now housed in its new location, will serve as the central hub for election monitoring, reporting, and data verification. This launch follows the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between AMAES and PPCRV at AMA University in Quezon City earlier this year, where both institutions renewed their commitment to promoting clean and honest elections through education and digital infrastructure.

At the heart of the event was the keynote address by AMAES Chairman Emeritus , Amb. Amable R. Aguiluz V, who emphasized the institution’s continuing role in nation-building.

“Corporate Social Responsibility is not just a checkbox for AMA Education System — it is the very heartbeat of our institution,” Dr. Aguiluz stated. “Empowering communities through education and technology is our core mission, and it is through meaningful engagements like this that we bring that mission to life.”

At the heart of the event was the keynote address by AMAES Chairman Emeritus , Amb. Amable R. Aguiluz V, who emphasized the institution’s continuing role in nation-building.

Amb.  Aguiluz outlined AMAES’ decades-long history of involvement in the country’s electoral process, dating back to the 1986 snap presidential elections. Since then, AMA has played a role in 14 national and local polls, including five automated elections. For the upcoming 2025 elections, AMAES is once again providing critical IT support, computer equipment, audiovisual training materials, and volunteers from over 200 campuses across the Philippines.

The launch also celebrated the enduring partnership between AMAES and PPCRV, which began in 2010 during the country’s first automated elections. But beyond institutional collaboration, it also spotlighted a personal bond that has long supported this shared advocacy—that of AMAES Chairman Emeritus Amb . Aguiluz and Ambassador Henrietta “Tita” de Villa, PPCRV Founding Chair and former Philippine Ambassador to the Holy See.

Ambassador de Villa, who has been at the forefront of electoral reform and civic education, was warmly welcomed at the event. Known for her strong Catholic faith and her dedication to peaceful elections, her presence was a reminder of the heart and soul behind the PPCRV’s mission.

PPCRV officials, including National Chairperson Evelyn Singson and Trustee and Spokesperson Ana de Villa–Singson, also graced the occasion, underscoring the organization’s readiness for 2025 and their appreciation for AMAES’ continued support.

As part of the renewed collaboration, voter education materials—including the Tibok Pinoy e-book—will be integrated into AMAES’ online learning platforms and disseminated through its digital and social media channels. This effort aims to mold not just voters, but responsible and informed Filipino citizens.

The launch of the PPCRV Command Center marks more than just logistical readiness. It is a symbol of trust, commitment, and shared purpose—an embodiment of the values both institutions stand for. With technology and education at the forefront, and a legacy of civic engagement behind them, AMAES and PPCRV are once again stepping up to help protect the integrity of the Filipino vote.

Palawan Group of Companies to help distribute aid to 650,000 Filipinos under new DSWD-LandBank partnership

0

In a significant step toward streamlining government financial aid distribution, the Palawan Group of Companies (PGC) has signed an agreement with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Land Bank of the Philippines (LandBank). This partnership aims to deliver critical support to approximately 650,000 beneficiaries under the government’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) and Ayuda para sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP). The agreement was officially sealed during a contract signing held on April 23, 2025, at the DSWD Field Office MIMAROPA in Malate, Manila.

Under the agreement, PGC will support the hybrid-digital payout system for AICS and AKAP. This approach combines both digital disbursement and traditional cash distribution to ensure faster, safer, and more accessible delivery of financial aid, especially in areas with limited access to banking services.

“We at Palawan Group are deeply grateful to be entrusted with this critical role in facilitating the payout for the beneficiaries under DSWD Region IV B’s programs, in collaboration with Landbank. Ang partnership na ito ay isa na namang matibay na patunay na ang matatag na public-private partnership ay kayang makagawa ng malaking pagbabago sa buhay ng ating kapwa Pilipino,” shared Karlo Enrico Amurao, PGC’s B2B Key Accounts Supervisor.

With over 70,000 branches, Pera Padala outlets, and PalawanPay Money Shops nationwide, the Palawan Group is well-positioned to serve beneficiaries across both urban and remote areas. Its expansive network, combined with a long-standing reputation of “mura, mabilis, at walang kuskos balungos” (affordable, fast, and hassle-free), makes Palawan a vital partner in ensuring the smooth and inclusive rollout of the AICS and AKAP programs.

Expressing excitement about this initiative, DSWD MIMAROPA Regional Director Leonardo Reynoso remarked, “This is a momentous occasion for the DSWD because it’s actually the first time that we will do this hybrid digital payment. And we extend our gratitude to Palawan Group of Companies. Kung wala kayo ay di natin magagawa ito.”

As outlined in the DSWD and LandBank partnership, DSWD social workers are tasked with validating and assessing qualified beneficiaries, while LandBank oversees the cashiering and release of funds. LandBank has engaged third-party financial service providers, including PGC, to expand the reach and efficiency of its aid distribution efforts.

Pursuant to the agreement, financial aid beneficiaries under the AICS and AKAP programs will be able to receive their assistance through Payout Caravans. This initiative is designed to improve the efficiency and accessibility of disbursements, particularly in both Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA) and non-GIDA communities, with minimal service charges. By leveraging a mix of physical and digital financial services, the partnership aims to reduce service barriers and demonstrate the impact of strong public-private sector collaboration in delivering essential support to vulnerable populations.

“Through this partnership, we are amplifying the impacts of this program. By pooling our resources, expertise and networks, we can ensure that assistance is delivered more efficiently and reaches those who need it most. Barriers to accessing aid are reduced, allowing for a more inclusive and responsive system. We bring not just aid, but hope and dignity to thousands of Filipinos,” emphasized Adeline Ramos, Vice President of Southwest Luzon Branches Group of Land Bank of the Philippines.

With its expansive network and long-standing reputation for dependable service, PGC stands as a key driver in this transformative initiative. By enabling faster, more accessible financial aid disbursement across the country, particularly in remote and underserved communities, PGC further cements its role as a vital private sector partner in national welfare efforts, showcasing the power of synergy between government and business to uplift vulnerable communities.

BGC Gets Greener: Watsons Launches Four Sustainable Stores

0

Leading health, wellness, and beauty retailer Watsons is transforming its four branches in Bonifacio Global City into Watsons Greener Stores, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and setting a new benchmark for sustainable retailing in the Philippines. Building on the success of its first Greener Store in San Pedro, Laguna, which launched in June 2024, Watsons is expanding its sustainable retail network. This initiative aims to reduce environmental impact by lowering carbon emissions, conserving water, minimizing landfill waste, and offering more sustainable product choices while supporting Watsons’ global movement toward a more sustainable future.

What Makes a Greener Store?

The four Watsons Greener Stores located in BGC High Street Plaza, Eco Tower, Bonifacio Technology Center, and Forbeswood Parklane are now energy-efficient retail spaces built with sustainability in mind. These stores focus on:

Sustainability Initiatives

As part of their commitment to sustainability, these stores implement waste reduction and recycling programs and integrate energy offsets. Sustainable materials, energy-efficient solutions, and eco-friendly practices are incorporated throughout, including the use of eco-friendly fixtures, energy-efficient lighting, and inverter cooling appliances to minimize environmental impact.

Store and Customer Education

To further promote responsible consumption, customers are encouraged to bring their own bags when shopping to help minimize plastic use. Through the Recycle for Rewards program, shoppers are also invited to return empty beauty and personal care bottles in exchange for shopping points, vouchers, or free items, promoting recycling and circular practices.

Watsons store personnel receive training on key sustainability initiatives, including occupational health and safety, energy savings, and waste management, ensuring they actively contribute to the company’s environmental goals. In-store materials and signage further strengthen these efforts by educating customers about Watsons’ sustainability initiatives, empowering them to make informed, eco-friendly choices with every visit.

Responsible Materials

Watsons prioritizes the use of sustainable materials, including FSC (Forest Stewardship Council)—and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) — certified recycled paper, boards, and responsibly sourced wood for displays and fixtures. To reduce environmental impact, marketing materials are also made from eco-friendly Solidus, replacing PVC-based Sintra boards.

Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy

The Greener Stores save energy by using LED lighting, smart meters, and inverter appliances. They also offset their electricity-related carbon footprint by purchasing Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs), which helps reduce their reliance on traditional power sources such as coal and oil while supporting the use of renewable energy.

Waste Diversion

Operational waste is sorted for recycling or upcycling, and some electrical components are repurposed to minimize waste. Additionally, all store fixtures can be reused and refurbished for other Watsons stores, further supporting sustainability and reducing environmental impact.

Beyond infrastructure, Watsons is making sustainable shopping more accessible by offering a curated selection of Sustainable Choices products at BGC Greener Stores. Customers can choose from Clean Beauty, Better Ingredients, Refill Packs, and Better Packaging options, all made from responsibly sourced materials, further encouraging eco-friendly habits.

“Our vision is to create more Watsons Greener Stores, reducing our environmental impact and embedding sustainability into our daily operations. This transformation is not just about infrastructure but about fostering a culture of sustainability,” said Sharon Decapia, SAVP for Marketing, PR & Sustainability.

To celebrate the launch of the BGC Greener Stores on April 26, Watsons hosted a walking eco-tour for customers, influencers, and residents of BGC. The tour took participants through all four stores, showcasing BGC’s eco-friendly spaces and educating them on sustainability while highlighting how Watsons is making sustainable choices more accessible.

Watsons continues to set new standards in health and beauty retail, with more Greener Stores in the works to drive a positive impact on the planet.

To learn more about Watsons’ sustainability efforts, visit any Watsons store nationwide or shop conveniently via the Watsons App.
