In an era of fragmented audiences, shifting consumer behavior, and a constant deluge of digital and AI-generated content, intuition or demographics are no longer enough to understand and provide for customers’ needs. Today’s competitive advantage lies in knowing not just who our customers are, but why they think, behave, and make decisions the way they do. As communications becomes increasingly central to business strategy, organizations are turning to research and “audience intelligence” to guide product innovation, strengthen brand reputation, and create deeper and meaningful engagement with stakeholders.

Long before “data-driven” became a business buzzword, strategic communications firm Comm&Sense Inc. had already built its practice around this core approach: the most effective communication begins with evidence, not assumptions. Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the firm has helped organizations across healthcare, finance, real estate, and other . industries transform research into actionable strategies. This improves  business performance,  shapes public conversations, and delivers measurable impact. Using tools ranging from social listening and behavioral analysis to nationwide research studies, Comm&Sense uncovers human insights that enable clients to make smarter decisions, develop more relevant products and services, and communicate with greater precision and purpose.

“We have long gone past traditional public relations,” said Comm&Sense Co-founder and Managing Director Charlotte Reyes. “The real value of communication lies in our ability to uncover human truths, identify unmet needs, and turn those insights into actions that create impact for organizations and the communities we serve.” This core philosophy has shaped some of the firm’s most pioneering research initiatives, which go beyond conventional demographic studies; exploring the deeper motivations, perceptions, and behavioral shifts influencing Filipino consumers. The resulting insights have helped clients refine business strategies, and gain the advantage in their respective industries. This demonstrates that when organizations truly understand people, better business decisions fall into place.

The PhilCare Wellness Index

Developed in partnership with healthcare leader PhilCare, this nationwide study has the distinction of being the first research of its kind in the Philippines that delves into the status of physical and mental health and wellness among Filipinos. The initial study was conducted in 2015 and in the decade that followed four other studies were done, including two during the pandemic era. The Wellness Index did not only mine data to get valuable insights into Filipinos’ health priorities  and practices, it has led to actual product development; in 2016, it gave birth to the country’s very first pre-paid healthcare plans. The studies consistently land on the front page of both traditional and online news media, making the brand a thought leader recognized by their key  stakeholders – media, policymakers, and the general public.

“Comm&Sense helped us uncover valuable insights into how Filipinos view health, wellness, and preventive care, allowing us to develop solutions and communication strategies that are more relevant and human,” said Raymond Tiangco, EVP of Operations of PhilCare.

“The research continues to shape how we engage with our members, and they remind us that real innovation starts with listening closely to what Filipinos actually need.”

The PhilLife Meter

For brand partner PhilLife, Comm&Sense engineered a research study on Filipinos’ financial literacy and health and wellness. Moving beyond standard economic data, the study sought to get a clear picture of how economic pressures influence spending, saving, and long-term financial planning. Insights from the study have helped guide communication strategies, product positioning, and consumer engagement programs within the insurance and financial services sectors. Moreover, they led to the creation of an innovation in both the finance industry and the food and beverage industry – Capital Brew, the country’s first chain of financial cafes.

“Strong financial solutions start with a deep understanding of the people they are meant to serve. Comm&Sense didn’t just hand us data, they gave us a lens into the real financial situations and priorities of the  Filipinos,” said Michelle Ambagan, EVP and COO of PhilLife.

“The study didn’t just  lead to a  communication strategy, it sharpened how we think about the people behind every policy and every product.”

Common Ground: New Voices in Media

In response to the rapid developments in social media use during the pandemic era, Comm&Sense conducted another industry-first study in 2023. Titled Common Ground, the  nationwide initiative mapped the differences in perceptions and preferences as well as behavioral intersections among Gen X, Millennials, Gen Z. The study helped brands navigate an increasingly fragmented media environment and identify shared sentiments such as approval for authenticity on social media and cultural touchpoints such as a cross-generational preference for watching news on various platforms.

“Our data proves a massive behavioral shift toward curated content and personalization,” noted Comm&Sense President Andy Saracho, APR. “Today’s generations demand content that aligns strictly with individual tastes. Intelligent PR means we no longer blast generic content; we architect platform-specific narrative structures that naturally invite audiences to engage.”

The agency’s research-first methodology has already earned critical acclaim, including  multiple prestigious Top Division Awards in Communication Research at the Philippine Quill Awards, alongside top honors from Anvil Awards and the Asia Pacific Stevie Awards.

As Comm&Sense enters its third decade, it remains focused on transforming data into action and communication into business value. Because in an era defined by information overload, the organizations that win are not necessarily those with the loudest voices, but those with the deepest understanding of the people they serve.

For Comm&Sense, that is the true meaning of turning insights into impact.
