Joy, Courage, and Birthdays: Foundever® in Baguio Brings Smiles to Young Cancer Warriors

Foundever®, a leader in the customer experience (CX) industry, partnered with Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) to host a special event for the hospital’s pediatric cancer patients.

Titled Fête la fête: A Celebration of Courage and Birthdays, the event sought to recognize the bravery of children battling cancer and give them moments of joy, especially those who often miss celebrating birthdays due to ongoing treatments or financial challenges.

Held during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the event embraced the national theme, “Maagang Tuklas, Mabilis na Lunas” (Early Detection, Swift Treatment), highlighting the importance of awareness and timely care in the fight against cancer among children.

A total of 85 pediatric cancer patients from BGHMC received care packages filled with school supplies, art materials, personal essentials, and small treats such as snacks and ice cream. Volunteers from Foundever in Baguio personally handed the gift packs and spent time connecting with the children, sharing stories, laughter and encouragement.

“At Foundever, we believe that every child deserves moments of joy and recognition, whatever challenges they face,” said Vida Haboc, Senior Director of Operations at Foundever.

“As parents and fellow Filipinos, we feel the weight of the battle these children and their families are facing. Through Fête la fête, we want these brave children to know that their courage inspires us, and that we stand with them in their fight with love, hope, and community,” she added.

Earlier this year, Foundever also held Race It Forward in Metro Manila, a fitness-for-a-cause fun run event that raised funds for Bahay Aruga, Inc., a halfway house in Manila providing free shelter and care to young cancer patients undergoing treatment at the Philippine General Hospital.

Childhood cancer in PH

The Philippines continues to face serious challenges in pediatric cancer care. According to World Health Organization (WHO)[MG1] , over 4,700 children (ages 0 to 19) are diagnosed with cancer in the country each year. Half of that number are leukemia cases.

Alarmingly, about two-thirds of those children are diagnosed at advanced stages, and five-year survival rates in the Philippines remain in the 25–50 percent range, markedly below the 80 percent or higher rates in high-income countries.

Financial hardship adds to the burden: many families struggle with the out-of-pocket costs of care. A recent Lancet comment[MG2]  described how indirect costs like transportation, lodging, and opportunity costs of caregivers add stress and sometimes lead families to abandon treatment.

Fête la fête is a reminder that even in the high-stakes realm of cancer care, small acts of warmth and recognition can ripple meaningfully through families’ lives.

Given this situation, corporate partners like Foundever play a valuable supplementary role. While government and hospital systems manage clinical care, the efforts of Foundever provide the necessary touch of humanity in the form of celebrations, psychosocial support, and small gifts. All these help uplift morale and signal to patients and families that they matter beyond the disease statistics.
